THE FIRST OF A NEW SERIES OF COLUMNS

Each month, this column will explore the community of enlightenment that exists on the Web and on other portions of the Internet like Usenet newsgroups and On-Line services. I will review web sites and tell you about opportunities to use the interactive power of the Internet via experiments and web events.

The impact of the World Wide Web (WWW) cannot be underestimated. Some liken it to the Gutenberg press, an invention featuring moveable type that represented a quantum leap forward for people in the 15th century. Prior to this point in history, information had to be painstakingly copied by hand; therefore, printed work was in the possession of the very few who could afford it. The Gutenberg press changed all that, making information more accessible to the masses.

The Internet had been around for years with minimal impact on mass consciousness until the programmers at CERN research lab in Switzerland created a kind of Esperanto for computers called Hypertext Markup Language, or HTML. HTML allows you to format text, add rules, graphics, sound and video and save it all in a format that all computers can read. This revolutionary concept is changing our perceptions of time, space and communication. People are able to access information instantaneously. In addition, the Web and the Internet are interactive. That means you not only can find information, but can join together and interact with others of like mind throughout the world. Think of the possibilities for energy shift!

The first book printed by Johann Gutenberg was the Bible, in recognition of the importance of the Christian spiritual path during his time. Today, more and more spiritual sites are available to those on the path to enlightenment. The Monthly Aspectarian site (www.lightworks.com), for example, lists over 300 web sites on its LINKS page. Web sites listed in ads or within articles in current issues of the magazine exceed 25.

The impact of the interactive nature of the Web was discussed during Guy Spiro's interview with Gregg Braden, author of Awakening to Zero Point and Walking Between Two Worlds. Braden stated that he, Jimmy Twyman and Dr. Doreen Virtue are doing a series of mass media experiments on the Internet, linking prayer globally. So far, the results have surpassed anything they expected and more experiments are underway.

Global Prayer

Gregg Braden talked about the impact of three global prayer experiments during his workshop at Transitions Learning Center in November of 1998. The first took place on April 23, 1998, the second on August 22, 1998 in conjunction with the Eighth Annual Amenia World Peace Festival, and the third on November 13, 1998 during the Universal Lightworkers' Conference.

These experiments are being studied by researchers at Princeton University who are measuring the effect of focused meditations and events on the earth's energy field. The November 13th experiments may have had a direct impact on the U.S./Iraq situation: Braden points out that U.S. was on the brink of war with Iraq on November 13th, yet the world awoke the next day to the news that the attack had been called off. For more information on how you can take part in the global prayer movement, see the www.worldpuja.org review below.

World Puja

Puja is a Sanskrit word for sacred ritual in honor of the Divine. The site is the place to go to find out when special global prayer experiments are going to happen. Click on Earth Pulse page and you'll find out how you can join thousands each week in a synchronized pulse of prayer for our world on Sundays (12 midnight; 6 AM, 12 noon and 6 PM Eastern Standard Time). The site also features live and taped broadcasts of events and concerts, as well as lectures by spiritual leaders. Check out their Sanctuary section featuring prayer rooms devoted to a variety of intents. This site is well laid out and easy to use. It's definitely worth a bookmark. (http://www.worldpuja.org)

Inward Journey

This locally generated web site is well worth the visit. Web site features include material channeled by Diandra, free chapters from her book, A New Day is Dawning and a free online workshop. The workshop will have you coming back for more. Recent workshops included Our Path Together: 12 Steps That Give Parents the Wisdom to Provide Children with a Safe Harbor for Their Soul's Path and Principles of Prosperity: Manifesting A Prosperity of Financial Abundance, Harmony, Inner Peace and Radiant Joy.
